Coconut Water as Organic Fertilizer

Gardens - Everyone knows that coconut is good for the health but it is also good for the garden. Coconut water makes fertilizing your plants easier and cheaper.

Coconut water is rich in potassium and nitrogen, and this twin combination is what most plants need for optimal growth.

Coconut water contains more than 80 nutrients. It's mildly acidic, making it a natural weed killer. And it can be safely used as an organic fertilizer on all types of plants including flowers, vegetables, fruit trees, shrubs, and lawns.

Trees can be effectively nourished with coconut water because its content of tocopherol or vitamin E provides the essential fatty acid component of plant nutrition needed to maintain healthy cell membranes and prevent plant diseases.

New plants grown from cuttings will root quicker when watered with coconut water.

Coconut water may be used as a foliar spray for potted plants. The liquid fertilizer helps the leaves absorb nutrients faster after transplanting and at the onset of growth. Apply an even layer of coconut water to the leaves using a spray bottle so that it drips down the sides of the pot evenly to avoid leaving salt deposits on the soil surface or burning the plant's roots.

How to Use Coconut Water to Fertilize Plants?

  • Mix 50-100 ml of pure coconut water in a liter of water, shake well, and use it to water plants once in 2-4 weeks. Due to the high amount of growth hormones present in it, this natural fertilizer will help in more vigorous root development and induce foliage growth.
  • You can also spray it on the foliage of your houseplants, herbs, vegetables, and flowering annuals and perennials to make them lush and bushier. Do not expose the plants to direct sunlight after its application.
  • You can also apply coconut water to emerging seedlings to boost their growth.
  • Providing coconut water to recently repotted plants helps in reducing transplant shock.
